Launching Lanark Local Flavour website!

Today we launched the Lanark Local Flavour website. It is the result of a few months of work for me and many more  months for Cheryl Nash and Bob Argue from ecoPerth.
This website is the one that challenged me and motivated me to really learn Drupal. It is my biggest website so far. Lanark Local Flavour works to link local farmers to local eaters, expand capacity and access to sustainably produced food, inform the public about food issues, and to celebrate the people who grow our food. The site has an area for logged in members where the food suppliers can post what they have available for sale. The potential buyers (restaurants, retailers and bakeries) can see what is available and contact the vendors. We are hoping that this will streamline the process for food buyers who will know right away what is available without having to call around and play phone tag with a bunch of farmers.
Lanark Local Flavour website presentationWe gathered most of the current members at Algonquin College this morning for a presentation of the site and a training on how to use it. The classroom was full. The website is starting with approximately 60 members (growers and buyers) and will most likely grow to over 100. The new site was very well received by everyone and some suggestions were made to improve it further.
In the near future we will probably add a calendar for food related events and a forum for a buyers wish-list.
People received their username and passwords as well as a link to two tutorial videos that I made especially for them. Everyone got a chance to socialise and mingle afterwards.
We are very proud to be launching this new site and hope it will bring local food into our local restaurants and other places where we purchase produce.
